Travel Information

Big Island

The youngest island in the Hawaiian archipelago (a mere half-million years old), Hawaii Island is still growing thanks to an energetic volcano. Yet the island is larger than all the other islands combined, hence its nickname, “The Big Island.” This is also the island where Polynesian voyagers from afar are believed to have first made landfall in Hawaii. And it is the storied home of Pele, Goddess of the Volcano. The Big Island is host to the preeminent annual hula festival in the world. The arts, cultural traditions and celebrations of our history all thrive there.

The Sheraton Keauhou hotel is located approximately 30 minutes south of Kona International Airport in the Keauhou resort area. (See map above)

Airport Information

Hawaii's Big Island has two main airports, but participants should fly into Kona International Airport (KOA). There are direct flights from the mainland U.S. to Kona, but most flights connect through Honolulu International Airport (HNL) on Oahu.
